Hold Back – behind a mask
Hold Back – behind a mask is a digital photo-based project that depicts emotions through the red, green, and blue backgrounds in different locations.
During the daily interaction with people, I observe that people don’t react with their true feelings. People hold back certain feelings behind an invisible mask that conceals their true selves from the world, and they wear this mask until the end of their life. The white flower in my work represents a plain, emotionless and neutral entity which will grow and die like any other flower, no matter what identity it represents.
Different colors of background define different emotions or feelings, the person in front of this background holds an emotion that contradicts the background color. This project encourages introspection and reflection, raising the question should we be real or continue hiding.
Red represents happiness, enthusiasm and excitement.
But behind the mask is indifference, seriousness, and calmness.
Green represents jealousy, surreal, healing. But behind the mask is sneer, capricious, and independent
Blue represents calm, peace and freedom. But behind the mask is anxiety, fear and danger.
